CFTP 740: Systemic Approaches to Addiction (Spring 2022, online; Winter 2023 online)

  • This doctoral level course will provide an in-depth exploration of the effects and consequences of addiction across multiple systems including family, community, and society. Its purpose in the program of study is to support the application and advancement of family therapy theory and practice in the prevention, treatment and recovery support for families impacted by substance use and addiction.

  • Developed course from scratch during winter 2022 as part of a fully online curriculum.

CFTP 517: Addictions in the Family (Summer 2021, online; Summer 2022 in-person)

  • The process of addiction will be examined in the context of the family and the larger social system. A wide exposure to theory and treatment models will be utilized to aid students' assessment and intervention skills in treating families with substance abuse issues.

  • Summer 2022 class built from scratch for new curriculum.

CFTP 575: Foundational Elements of Addiction (Spring 2022, face-to-face)

  • This master’s level course is an introduction into addictions which includes an overview of definitions, conceptual frameworks, and classical methods used; the effects and consequences of addiction on family and community, and the familial processes associated with substance use and abuse.

  • Developed course from scratch during winter 2022.

CFTP 510: Introduction to Family Therapy (Winter 2022, face-to-face)

  • The purpose of this master’s level course is to introduce the student to major family therapy theories and their relationship to general systems theory and cybernetics.

CFTP 716: Advanced Family Therapy Theory and Practice (Fall 2021 & 2022, online)

·       This doctoral level course examines contemporary models/ theories of family therapy from the perspective of sociocultural attunement and common factors. The purpose of the course is to prepare students to critically examine clinical practice, advance their clinical skills, and prepare to teach and supervise others in advanced practice.

·       Developed course from scratch during summer 2021 as part of a fully online curriculum.

CFTP 540: Child Therapy (Fall 2020, online)

·       Students will learn how to develop FT treatment strategies for children and adolescents. Students will develop FT clinical intervention and management skills based on; DSM-5 diagnosis, developmental assessment, family, sibling, and parent subsystem assessments, cultural/socio-economic dynamics, and the presenting symptoms of the child.

CFTP 524 Research I: Family Evaluation (Summer 2019, face-to-face)

·       This course focuses on issues in the clinical assessment of individuals, couples, and families. Assessment will be considered through a multi-method approach that includes: qualitative interview, observation, clinician-rated or global rating scales, and self-report inventories.

CFTP 500 Introduction to Systems Theory (Fall 2019, face-to-face)

·       This course will present an overview of systems theory, particularly general systems theory and cybernetics. This course will include a critique of system theory from a feminist and cross-cultural perspective.

CFTP 525 Research in Couple and Family Therapy (Fall 2019, face-to-face)

·       This course focuses on research methods for couple and family therapy, and is designed to review contemporary family research methods through a multi-method approach. Issues in the clinical assessment of individuals, couples, and families will be explored from diverse contextual variables.
